Coagulation

Coagulation and floculation are applied to remove soluble impurities from water by turning them into insoluble substances and then concentrate these substances.

By adding chemicals such as FeCl 3, and Al 2 (SO4) 3, colloidal particles can be destabilized. Intensive mixing, will ultimately adhere the particles to one another (coagulation). Floculation is the process of flock growth, which can be stimulated by slow stirring, and by adding poly-electrolyte (PE = flock agent).
